Welcome to Community Pharmacy Leicestershire and Rutland (CPL&R)
Formerly Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC)
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our website — and thank you for taking an interest in the work of Community Pharmacy across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Over recent years, the role of community pharmacy has evolved rapidly. The pandemic triggered a seismic shift in how health services are delivered, and community pharmacies were among the first to step up. Across LLR, pharmacy teams responded with courage and commitment, staying open, adapting quickly, and continuing to provide accessible, compassionate, and high-quality care at a time of national crisis.
Since then, community pharmacies have become an essential pillar in primary care delivery. We are proud of our contribution to newly launched national services such as Pharmacy First, Hypertension Case-Finding, and the Pharmacy Contraception Service. LLR has often been ahead of the curve, piloting innovative services, fostering local partnerships, and shaping integrated care models.
However, the sector remains under immense pressure. Years of underfunding, escalating operational costs, workforce challenges, and rising patient demand are taking their toll. In LLR, we are not immune to these challenges, many of our local pharmacies are working at or beyond capacity, with some at risk of permanent closure.
Despite this, I remain incredibly proud of the resilience and professionalism shown by our pharmacy teams across the region. Every day, they go above and beyond to deliver essential healthcare, improve outcomes, and serve some of our most vulnerable communities, particularly in areas of deprivation and health inequality.
At CPL&R, we continue to evolve to meet these challenges. In 2025, we introduced Our Values, a framework that underpins how we work, the culture we foster, and how we engage with our contractors, patients, and system partners. We are proud to represent 223 community pharmacies across LLR and are committed to championing their role in local health systems and strategic planning.
Now more than ever, we must focus on the future, one that is sustainable, collaborative, and puts patients at the heart of everything we do. I truly believe in the power and potential of community pharmacy, and I am committed to working tirelessly on your behalf to ensure our voices are heard and our value recognised.
Let’s continue to build that future, together.
Warm regards,
Rajshri Owen
