Currently the only Sexual Health service available to pharmacies in Leicester City Council is the Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) service which allows you to provide EHC to women free of charge. As part of this service, you will be offering advice on good sexual health.

Training Requirements

Refer to the service specification; Training via CPPE and F2F

Must complete a Declaration of Competence (DoC) for “Supervised Consumption of Prescribed Medicines Service” and complete the CPPE Substance use and misuse e-learning programme to provide this service.  The DoC needs to be reviewed every three years by the pharmacist.

Comments

The pharmacist or competent member of the pharmacy team supervises the consumption of methadone or buprenorphine at the point of dispensing in the pharmacy ensuring the dose has been administered appropriately.

The pharmacy will offer the use of the consultation room.

The pharmacy will be available to be contacted by Turning Point staff regarding the amendment to a prescription or to check the wellbeing of a service user.

This is a remunerated service.

Training Requirements

Refer to the service specification; Staff must complete a F2F training session before this service can be carried out.

All pharmacy staff should be encouraged to complete the free online training courses from Frontier.

Comments

A confidential service for anyone who injects drugs including steroids.

The main aim is to protect individuals from infections such as Hep B, Hep C and HIV

Pharmacies are expected to give safer injecting advice.

This is a remunerated service.

Monthly needle ex waste collection.

This is an add-on to needle exchange – Naloxone is an opiate antagonist used for the purpose of reducing death in the event of an opiate overdose.

Service Specification

The H. pylori breath test can be undertaken by a dispenser, pharmacy technician or pharmacist within an accredited Pharmacy.

Training Requirements

Relevant staff from the provider practice must attend the training course provided by LIPCO Healthcare Ltd to ensure safe and competent delivery of this service.

Comments

Leicestershire Independent Pharmacy Company (LIPCO) won the H.pylori service contract, which went out to tender via the Any Qualified Provider route. This service is therefore only provided by members of LIPCO.

Pharmacists and staff have received regular resuscitation training as appropriate.

Pharmacists and staff providing the service have access to safeguarding (including adults and children) level 1 and 2 training which is undertaken every 3 years if appropriate.
